St. Mary's Music School Pupil Wins Top Prize at Edinburgh Music Competition Festival

St. Mary's Music School pupil, Kristina (S4), was awarded 1st prize at the Edinburgh Music Competition Festival's Concerto Competition. Amidst a pool competitors, including a violinist, saxophonist and a fellow pianist, Kristina's performance captivated both audience and adjudicators alike.

Her rendition of Greig's Piano Concerto in A minor showcased her technical prowess and musicality, earning her the Audrey Innes trophy. Reflecting on her success, Kristina expressed gratitude, stating:

"This felt like one of the most important performances of my life! I've always dreamt of playing this particular concerto and performing with an orchestra. Winning was already achieved for me from the moment I stepped into my first rehearsal and couldn't contain my joy while the orchestra accompanied me. I enjoyed every moment of preparations and every moment of performance, it was incredible!"

Kristina's is grateful to her mentors and supporters at St. Mary's Music School, particularly her teacher, esteemed pianist Anna Michels, who played an instrumental role in her success. Kristina's success not only emphasises her exceptional talent but also highlights the nurturing environment and dedicated coaching provided by St. Mary's Music School.

The Edinburgh Music Competition, now in its 103rd year, provides amateur musicians of all ages the opportunity to perform.
